Anett Kontaveit won a strong-willed victory at the start of the tournament in Sydney

The 20th racket of the world, Estonian Anett Kontaveit, in three sets won Puerto-Rican Monica Puig, who occupies the 53rd line of the WTA rating, with a score of 2/6, 7/5, 6/1 at the start of the tournament in Sydney.

Tennis players spent on the court 2 hours 3 minutes. During this time, the 23-year-old  Kontaveit completed seven aces, once made a mistake when serving and sold five break points, and 25-year-old Puig filed three times, made two double mistakes and made four breaks. Now the score in personal meetings was 1: 1.

In the second round of the Sydney International competition, Kontaveit will face off with Belgian Elise Mertens.
