Prize money per round
National Bank Open prize money 2026, per round
In shortThe 2026 men's event in Montreal paid $9,415,725 in total prize money, $1,151,420 of it to the champion. The women's event in Toronto paid $7,433,076, with $1,085,220 for the champion.
National Bank Open prize money is paid per player, in US dollars, for the furthest round reached. Since 2025 both draws have 96 players and the event runs for twelve days, so the ladder has eight rounds, from the first round to the final. The 32 seeds get a bye through the first round, which is why a seeded player who loses their first match still collects the second-round amount.

| Round reached | Share of the champion's cheque | ATP | WTA | ATP / WTA pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| Round of 64 | $36,110 | $28,425 | 30 / 35 | |
| First round | $24,335 | $18,420 | 10 / 20 |
The two columns are close at the top and drift apart lower down. The women's champion in Toronto received $1,085,220, about 94 percent of the men's $1,151,420, but a first-round loser in the women's draw took $18,420 against $24,335 for the men. The points differ slightly as well, because the WTA and ATP use their own tables below the final, so a WTA semifinalist earns 390 points and an ATP semifinalist 400.
Toronto and Montreal
Toronto or Montreal: who plays where
In shortThe men and women split the two cities and swap each summer. In 2026 the men played in Montreal and the women in Toronto; in 2025 it was the other way round.
2024
- Men in Montreal
- Alexei Popyrin
- Women in Toronto
- Jessica Pegula
2025

- Women in Montreal
- Victoria Mboko
2026
- Men in Montreal
- Ben Shelton
- Women in Toronto
- Iga Swiatek
The two venues are Sobeys Stadium in Toronto and IGA Stadium in Montreal. Every year one city hosts the ATP Masters 1000 and the other the WTA 1000, in the same fortnight, so Canadian fans get both tours but never in one place. The arrangement explains the odd look of the honor roll, where the same tournament seems to change cities from one line to the next.
The 2026 women's event in Toronto set an attendance record of 215,872. On the men's side, Ben Shelton defended in Montreal in 2026 the title he had won in Toronto in 2025, making him only the fourth man this century to win the Canadian title twice in a row, after Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

Two jumps stand out. The first came in 2025, when the event grew to twelve days and 96-player draws, which needed more prize money to fund the extra round. The second is in the women's purse in 2026, up by more than 40 percent in a single year to $7,433,076, as the tournament moves toward the equal pay it has promised for 2027.
The champion's share has grown more slowly than the purse. The men's champion received $1,019,335 in 2023 and $1,151,420 in 2026; most of the new money went into the larger draw and the early rounds, which is where most players actually leave the tournament.
Equal prize money
Will the men and women be paid the same?
In shortYes, from 2027. Tennis Canada announced in June 2023 that the National Bank Open would offer equal prize money to men and women starting with the 2027 edition.
The gap is shrinking fast. In 2025 the women's champion in Montreal earned $752,275 to the men's $1,124,380 in Toronto, about two thirds. A year later the women's champion was within roughly $66,000 of the men's. The 2027 promise fits the plan the WTA laid out in 2023 for its combined events: equal prize money at the 1000 and 500 events played alongside the men by 2027, and at single-week events later.
Victoria Mboko's 2025 title shows what the gap meant in practice. The Canadian beat Naomi Osaka in the Montreal final and took $752,275; the man who won in Toronto the same week, Ben Shelton, received $1,124,380 for the same achievement.
