Jessica Pegula Career
The Buffalo native was born in the winter of ’94. At the age of seven, she started serious tennis lessons. The athlete came to professional tennis back in 2009, but at the beginning of her career, she was not particularly successful.
Her first success came in 2018 when Pegula reached the finals of a tournament in Quebec but lost in the final to Pauline Parmentier in two sets. Successful performance in Quebec helped the athlete finish the year in the top 125 of the WTA rankings.
At the Washington Open in 2019, Jessica won her debut WTA title, defeating Camila Giorgi in the deciding match. After this victory, the American, for the first time in her career, finished the year in the top 100 of the WTA rankings.
The athlete started the year 2020 very successfully. Jessica Pegula reached the finals of the ASB Classic but lost to her compatriot Serena Williams. Then a pandemic broke out and Jessica did not show herself at all.
Pegula’s success in 2021 has been nothing short of remarkable. For the first time in her career, she reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam event at the Australian Open. She then went on to achieve career-high rankings of No. 43 in the world and No. 25 after strong showings at the Qatar Open, Dubai Tennis Championships, and French Open. Pegula continued her ascent up the rankings with a semifinal appearance at the Canada Masters, defeating Ons Jabeur in the quarterfinals. This run of success has vaulted Pegula into the top 30 in the world and put her on the radar of tennis fans around the globe. With her mix of power and precision, Pegula looks poised to make even more noise on the tour in the months and years to come.
American Jessica Pegula played twice in the quarterfinals of grand slam tournaments this season, but lost both times. In Melbourne she lost to Ash Barty, and in Paris Iga Swiatek was stronger than Pegula.
