The board reads his ATP record. Kyrgios turned professional in 2013 and was a top-30 player within two seasons, built on one of the biggest serves of his generation and a habit of playing his best tennis against the best players. That serve is bound by the same rule as anyone's on where the feet may land, the subject of our foot fault explainer, and his on-court conduct has brought him several fines under the rules described in what a code violation is. His full name is Nicholas Hilmy Kyrgios; on tour he has always been "Kygs".

The ranking number on the board needs context. Since 2023 he has played only a handful of tour matches because of knee and wrist surgery, so his position on the list says more about time away than about level.

Parents and family

Nick Kyrgios's parents, George and Norlaila

Nick Kyrgios's father, George, is Greek and worked as a painter; his mother, Norlaila, is Malaysian and a retired computer engineer. She taught him tennis from the age of six. He has a brother, Christos, and a sister, Halimah.

Those details come from his ATP biography, which is also where the family's mixed heritage is set out plainly: a Greek father, a Malaysian mother, three children raised in Canberra. Norlaila was the first coach. The ATP says he started playing at six with her, years before anyone outside the capital knew the name.

Canberra is not a tennis hotbed in the way Melbourne or Sydney is, and basketball has always been his other sport. The ATP lists the Boston Celtics as his team, and the love of the sport never went away; the hoop in the band further down this page is a nod to it. His tennis idols, the same biography says, were Roger Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The family stays mostly out of the public conversation. Searches about his parents often lead to old tabloid stories; this page sticks to what the ATP has published.

The ATP's career list of October 26, 2026 puts Kyrgios at $12,864,094. The single biggest week was Wimbledon 2022, where the runner-up's share was 1,050,000 pounds. Everything else online is guesswork, since net-worth figures for him circulate widely, but none comes with a published method, and he has not appeared on the Forbes lists of the highest-paid tennis players. So this page shows the official figure and leaves the estimate out.

Prize money is also gross. A player pays for travel, coaching help, physios and stringing out of it, and the tax due depends on where each event is played. The tennis net worth tracker sets him beside the other players on the same basis, official prize money first and estimates only where a named source exists.

The 2022 Wimbledon final

Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon 2022

Kyrgios reached his first Grand Slam singles final at Wimbledon 2022, ranked No. 40, and lost to Novak Djokovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3) on July 10, 2022. Rafael Nadal had withdrawn before their semifinal.

The fortnight had everything people associate with him. A five-setter against Britain's Paul Jubb on day one. A fiery third-round win over Stefanos Tsitsipas, the fifth seed. Another five sets against Brandon Nakashima. Then the semifinal against Nadal never happened, because the Spaniard withdrew injured, and Kyrgios walked into the final without hitting a ball.

On Sunday, July 10, he won the first set against Djokovic 6-4 and served big all afternoon. Djokovic took the next two and then the fourth-set tiebreak 7-3 for his seventh Wimbledon title. The Djokovic profile covers his side of it, and the Wimbledon guide has the event's dates and prize money.

The ATP's write-up of the Netflix series Break Point quotes his manager, Daniel Horsfall, on the other Wimbledon that shaped him: "Everything really changed when he beat Nadal at Wimbledon and made the quarter-finals." That was 2014, the subject of the next section.

Titles and Grand Slams

Nick Kyrgios's titles and Grand Slam record

Kyrgios has 7 ATP singles titles, three of them in 2016, plus the 2022 Australian Open doubles title with Thanasi Kokkinakis. His best singles results at the majors are the 2022 Wimbledon final and quarterfinals at the other three hard and grass events.

The titles are spread over seven seasons: Marseille, Atlanta and Tokyo in 2016, Brisbane in 2018, Acapulco and Washington in 2019, and Washington again in 2022, where he beat Yoshihito Nishioka 6-4, 6-3 in the final. That 2022 summer was the best stretch of his career, with three doubles titles as well: the Australian Open and Atlanta with Kokkinakis, Washington with Jack Sock.

The Australian Open doubles run started as an unseeded wildcard entry and ended with a 7-5, 6-4 final win over Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell, an all-Australian final. The Australian Open guide covers the event.

The breakthrough had come eight years earlier. At Wimbledon 2014, ranked No. 144 and playing on a wildcard, the 19-year-old beat world No. 1 Rafael Nadal 7-6(5), 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-3 in the fourth round, after saving nine match points against Richard Gasquet in the second. The ATP notes he was the first man in ten years to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals on debut. Milos Raonic stopped him there.

Against the Big Three

Nick Kyrgios against Djokovic, Nadal and Federer

Kyrgios leads Novak Djokovic 2-1 in their ATP head-to-head, trails Rafael Nadal 3-6 and Roger Federer 1-6. He beat Djokovic twice in 2017, in Acapulco and Indian Wells.

Few players can say they lead Djokovic. Kyrgios beat him in the Acapulco quarterfinals in March 2017, 7-6(9), 7-5, and again two weeks later in the fourth round at Indian Wells, 6-4, 7-6(3). Djokovic won the one meeting that counted most, the Wimbledon final.

Against Nadal the record is 3-6, with wins at Wimbledon 2014, Cincinnati 2017 and Acapulco 2019. Nadal, asked about him in 2019, told the ATP: "With his talent and with his serve, he can win a Grand Slam, of course." Against Federer it is 1-6; the only win came in Madrid in 2015, 6-7(2), 7-6(5), 7-6(12), and Federer also beat him in all three of their Laver Cup meetings.

Coach and team

Does Nick Kyrgios have a coach?

His ATP profile lists no coach. Kyrgios has worked without a full-time coach for most of his career; his long-time manager, Daniel Horsfall, is the constant in his team.

Most top players travel with a head coach, a hitting partner and a physio. Kyrgios has been the exception. The coach field on his ATP profile is blank, and ATP coverage of his 2025 return speaks of his "team" without naming a coach.

It has not stopped him beating top-10 players, but it is part of the reason his results have come in bursts. The tennis coaches directory lists who coaches every top player, and makes a useful comparison, since almost every name near the top of the ranking has a coach of record.

Injuries and comeback

Nick Kyrgios's injuries and the long way back

Kyrgios had knee surgery in January 2023 and wrist surgery in September 2023 for a fully ruptured scapholunate ligament. He played one tour match in 2023, none in 2024, came back in Brisbane at the turn of 2025 and has played only a few singles matches since.

The line tells it. A career high of No. 13 in October 2016, a return to No. 22 at the end of 2022 after the Wimbledon final, and then a gap. The ATP reported the left-knee surgery in January 2023 and a wrist operation that September; his only match that year was a loss to Wu Yibing in Stuttgart in June.

He returned after more than 18 months away, at Brisbane in the first week of 2025, and also played doubles there with Novak Djokovic. At the Australian Open he lost in the first round to Jacob Fearnley with an abdominal problem and told the ATP: "Realistically I can't really see myself probably playing singles again here." At Indian Wells he retired with wrist pain. He finished 2025 at No. 671.

In 2026 his ATP record shows singles at Brisbane, Stuttgart, where he beat Corentin Moutet 6-3, 6-4, and Mallorca, plus doubles with Kokkinakis and Alexander Bublik. His 2026 singles record reads 1-3. The players hub sets the current top 10s beside the profiles, and the tennis calendar lists the events he would need to play to climb back.
