Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek had a great season which allowed her to debut at the WTA Finals. Although she did not play her best tennis in the final tournament, winning only one match out of three, it is still a very good result for such a young player.Traditionally, her nearest and dearest kept their fingers crossed for the 20-year-old. Iga Swiatek does not hide how important the support of her family is to her. When she won the French Open in October 2020, she said that it was her dad who taught her how to be a professional in sports.

Iga Swiatek once confessed that it was her father who came up with the idea of her taking up tennis. – He always liked this sport and wanted his daughter to practise it. My sister, who was three years older, was playing and I wanted to be like her. When I was younger, I was always competing against her and losing, which was very motivating for me,” she told WTA Insider in 2019.
Tomasz Swiatek used to be an athlete himself – he practised rowing. At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 he competed in double four. Together with Sławomir Cieślakowski, Mirosław Mruk and Andrzej Krzepiński he finished in seventh place. A year earlier in the same team he won gold at the Universiade. Świątek has also participated in the world championships several times.
In 2018, in the pages of “Super Express“, Iga’s father explained why he wanted his kids to bet on an individual sport. – I have always adhered to the principle that practicing sports does not have to interfere in life, but can instead help a lot. I wanted Iga and her older sister Agata to practice something, preferably an individual sport, so that they could be responsible for their successes and failures and learn to cope with them (…) – he confessed.
When Iga Świątek defeated Sofia Kenin 6:4, 6:1 in the final of the tournament held at Roland Garros courts in October 2020, she was extremely emotional and thanked her dad. – He taught me how to be a professional in sports. He also taught me how to be confident on the court,’ she said.
Dorota Swiatek – who is Iga’s mom?
Iga’s mom keeps in the shadow, but also greatly supports her daughter in her sports career. Dorota Swiatek avoids the media, however, after the last year’s French Open she made an exception and gave an interview to “Super Express”. – My approach to her sport has always been: no matter what result you achieve, the most important thing is the style,” she confessed then. Then she also revealed that she is not afraid of media interest in her daughter. – There is absolutely nothing wrong with igomania itself. Sport is democratic, because it shows how much you can achieve without wild cards and with your own work and determination – she emphasized.
Dorota Swiatek is a dentist by profession, more specifically an orthodontist. She graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry, 1st Medical Faculty of Warsaw Medical University.

Agata Swiatek – who is the tennis player’s sister?
Iga Swiatek is strongly related to her older sister Agata, who also trained tennis in the past. Last year, the sportswoman revealed that she had never been able to beat her older sister because she stopped playing a few years ago due to an injury.
Eventually, Agata Swiatek decided to follow in her mother’s footsteps. The 22-year-old studies at the Faculty of Dentistry of the Medical University in Lublin.
