Sofia Kenin’s tennis career
Sofia was born in Moscow on November 14, 98. Later her parents returned to the United States, where they lived permanently. At the age of five the girl began attending the tennis academy, where her father brought her. It was Alex Kenin, who at the time worked as a cab driver in New York City, who first discerned his daughter’s potential.
As early as seven years old Sofia openly declared that she could easily take a serve from former world number one Andy Roddick. She was lucky to train with such stars of the past as John McEnroe, Venus Williams and Kim Clijsters.
Sofia performed brilliantly at the junior level, winning a number of prestigious championships, including the Orange Bowl. She also managed to reach the finals of the US Junior Open, where she was defeated. Kenin finished the 2015 season as the world’s No. 2 junior player.
