She graduated in 2012 from Northeast High School in St. Petersburg, Florida. She got a push in her career with the help of a scholarship she received from the University of Florida in her early days. She got transferred to the University of Virginia after her freshmen year. Thereafter she won the NCAA titles in her sophomore and senior years.
She began her professional career in the middle of 2016, despite the fact that she had not played any professional matches in 2013 or 2015. She was busy playing for her college in Virginia and won the NCAA singles title in 2014 and 2016 respectively, ranking at the top. She won her first WTA title at the Palermo International in 2021 where she defeated Elena-Gabriela Ruse. The second WTA title was won at the Silicon Valley Classic, where she defeated Daria Kasatkina in three sets the same year. she ended the season well by advancing till 3rd round of the US Open 2021.
Collins started the 2022 season with a strong performance at the Australian Open. The American made it to the finals, where she lost to the hostess Ashleigh Barty in two sets. She later withdrew from the Dubai tournament and returned to competition in her home country in the US at a tournament in Miami. Collins managed to reach the quarterfinals, where she lost to Naomi Osaka of Japan in two sets.
