It turns out that it was not easy for him to decide whether he would rather play basketball or tennis. “One of Hubert’s first coaches, Czech, urged him to compete a lot in Poland and the Czech Republic, even at the expense of training. So we started organizing his and my life in weekly cycles and that’s how it naturally went. To play basketball, in which he was also good, or tennis – this was Hubert’s dilemma for some time, but the coaching staff of the basketball team set conditions, and we had to choose. This choice was also natural, without deliberations at the table, just basketball was out”. – said in an interview with “Rzeczpospolita” his father.
Krzysztof Hurkacz praised his son. “Hubert can achieve his goals, but he doesn’t define them sharply. And he likes to have fun with what he does. The goal doesn’t limit him, and I think that’s the answer.” – he said. He also responded to those who think his son is “too polite for modern tennis.” “He is a fighter to the last drop of blood. You don’t see that because he doesn’t have the need to get his emotions out like others do, but if you play one-on-one basketball with him, he never lets go, I know what I’m saying because I’ve done it more than once,” – he said.
