The Citi Open is a joint ATP 500/WTA 250 tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. The tournament is held at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington, D.C., and features some of the top men’s and women’s players in the world.

WTA 250 Washington Open Prize Money 2022
It is no secret that tennis is a wealthy person’s sport. The prestigious tournaments are usually only attended by the elite, both in terms of skill and background. However, this does not mean that progress isn’t being made in terms of equality. Recently, the Citi Open announced that they would be increasing the prize money for the women’s side of the tournament by 0.70% to $251,750. This may seem like a small amount, but it is a significant step in the right direction. The WTA champion will pick up a cheque for $33,200, down -22.79% compared to 2019.
Additionally, the prize money for the early rounds has been increased by 27.70%. This is important because it shows that progress is being made in terms of equality, and it gives hope for the future of the sport.
