Anhelina Kalinina, born on February 7, 1997, hails from Nova Kakhovka in Kherson Oblast, Ukraine. Nova Kakhovka, situated on the left bank of the Dnieper River, is often referred to as an oasis due to its desert-like landscape. The talented tennis player first gained recognition in the U-18 category, where she excelled at international junior tournaments, ultimately entering the world’s top 10 and earning invitations to adult competitions.
Kalinina began participating in adult ITF competitions in 2013 at the age of 16. Despite facing some setbacks, she continued to make progress, winning multiple $25,000 tournaments and breaking into the top 150 by 2015. However, a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery forced her to take a six-month break from the sport. She later teamed up with former world number one, Dinara Safina, for training near New York.
