Injury prevented a good game
In an interview with Big Tennis Ukraine, Svitolina gave more details about her condition.
“It’s very frustrating that the injury worsened during the match. Yesterday my leg was in a very bad condition, so there was almost no opportunity to practice. It was very difficult to move around today, there was no reaction in my leg.
It’s certainly a big miracle that I was able to come back and play a couple of matches at Indian Wells, because I had a torn muscle on my shot. We’ll see how I recover in the next few days.
The performance in Tenerife is a big question because we need to heal the injury and not make it worse, so in the next few days we need to decide what the next steps will be,” said Elina
The other representatives of the top 10 of the WTA ranking, did not perform in the best way at this tournament. Roland Garros champion Barbora Krejcikova lost in the 1/8 finals of the Indian Wells tournament to Paula Badosa 1-6, 5-7.
The Czech was the last top-10 tennis player in the set. Thus, no other top-10 tennis player made it to the quarterfinals.
Ashley Barty (1), Aryna Sabalenka (2), Sofia Kenin (8), and Belinda Bencic (10) withdrew from the tournament before it began.
Garbiñe Muguruza (6) and Maria Sakkari (9) lost in the second round – where all the seeds started. Karolina Pliskova (3) lost in the third round. Iga Swiatek (4), Krejcikova (5) and Elina Svitolina (7) were eliminated in the 1/8 finals.
