Argentines are gradually proving to the world that they are not just exceptional in football but have a say in other sports. One of those showcasing this prowess is the Cerundolo brothers. However, we will focus on the coach of just one of them in this article, Francisco Cerundolo.
Francisco Cerundolo is a professional Argentine tennis player born on the 13th of August, 1998 (23) in Buenos Aires in Argentina. Frans–as nicknamed– comes from a family that cherishes sport, and each family member happens to play one sport or the other.
His father, Alejandro Cerundolo, was a professional tennis player who played the game during the 80s before he quit to manage his academy. Now, he works as a professional coach to top Argentine players.
His mother was Maria Luz, who also played tennis at some point.
In contrast, his sister, Maria Constanza, played field hockey and represented Argentine at the 2018 Youth Olympics Games, where they won gold.
He also has a younger brother named Juan Manuel Cerundolo, who plays tennis and won the 2021 Cordoba Open. Both of them have improved and are exceptional so far.
Current Coach Of Francisco Cerundolo,
The current coach of Francisco Cerundolo is Kevin Konfederak. He appears to be his first professional coach, as there is little record of Franc having a coach before him.
Kevin took charge of Francisco in January 2022 and was instrumental in winning his first professional title later in the year at the 2022 Sweden Open.
Kevin, an ex-professional Argentine tennis player, hails from the same town as Francisco (Buenos Aires) and is also the assistant coach of the Nebraska Men’s Tennis team.
During his time as a player, Kevin recorded the highest career ranking of 17 on the ITF World’s Ranking and made it to a Junior Davies Cup final to become a Grizz Legend.
Francisco became his first professional trainee when they began their relationship earlier this year. So far, the relationship has been fruitful as Fran has been able to break into the World’s Top 30 as he reached a career highest ranking of 24 for the first time.
Speaking on his development, Kevin claimed that “Fran has gained a lot of confidence and improved massively from playing with some top players during training”. He continued, “the young lad, after defeating some of these players during training, started believing more in himself”.
Previous Coaches
At the time of writing this article, there has not been any record of those who have coached Francisco in the past and considering the year the tennis star became a pro (2018), the player likely did not have a formal coach until now.
During his development, Francisco always trained at his father’s academy and progressed to the University of South Carolina in the US, where Cerundolo played tennis for the college.
This proves that Fran would not have needed a coach through this period since he could get enough guidance from his father, coaches at the academy, and the ones at his college.
Francisco sits at number 24 on the ATP Singles Ranking and has reached second (2) worldwide on the ITF Singles Ranking. He achieved both in July 2022 and September 2019, respectively.
