Francisco Cerundolo, a professional tennis player from Argentina, is showing the world that Argentines excel in sports beyond just football. Born on August 13, 1998, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Francisco, also known as Frans, hails from a family deeply passionate about sports.
His father, Alejandro Cerundolo, was a pro tennis player in the 1980s. After retiring from his playing career, Alejandro now operates his own tennis academy and coaches top-level Argentine players.
Frans’ mother, Maria Luz, also has a history with tennis, having played the sport herself.
Frans’ sister, Maria Constanza, took a different path in sports and became a field hockey player. Her talent led her to represent Argentina at the 2018 Youth Olympics Games, where she and her team clinched gold.
Finally, Frans’ younger brother, Juan Manuel Cerundolo, also shares the family’s love for tennis. Juan Manuel’s skills have been recognized on the court, earning him the title at the 2021 Cordoba Open. Both Francisco and Juan Manuel are making impressive strides in their tennis careers.
Who is Francisco Cerundolo’s Current Coach?
Kevin Konfederak
The current coach of Francisco Cerundolo is Kevin Konfederak. He appears to be his first professional coach, as there is little record of Franc having a coach before him.
Kevin took charge of Francisco in January 2022 and was instrumental in winning his first professional title later in the year at the 2022 Sweden Open.
Kevin, an ex-professional Argentine tennis player, hails from the same town as Francisco (Buenos Aires) and is also the assistant coach of the Nebraska Men’s Tennis team.
During his time as a player, Kevin recorded the highest career ranking of 17 on the ITF World’s Ranking and made it to a Junior Davies Cup final to become a Grizz Legend.
Francisco became his first professional trainee when they began their relationship earlier this year. So far, the relationship has been fruitful as Fran has been able to break into the World’s Top 20 as he reached a career-highest ranking of 19 for the first time.
Speaking on his development, Kevin claimed that “Fran has gained a lot of confidence and improved massively from playing with some top players during training”. He continued, “the young lad, after defeating some of these players during training, started believing more in himself”.
Francisco Cerundolo, guided by his coach Kevin Konfederak, had a strong start in 2023 with commendable performances at the Australian Open and Davis Cup. Even though he was eliminated in the third round at the Australian Open by Félix Auger-Aliassime, he bounced back with a win against Otto Virtanen in the Davis Cup. His season on the Latin American clay courts was a mixed bag, but he showed resilience with victories over well-regarded opponents, despite some defeats.
His performances improved significantly during the hard-court tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami. Under Konfederak’s mentorship, he secured an impressive win over Lorenzo Sonego. During the European clay court season, Cerundolo’s skills shone through as he managed victories over top players like Cameron Norrie and Jannik Sinner. The French Open was a particularly high point, where he reached the round of 16 before losing to Holger Rune. The culmination of his success came during the grass court season when he won his first title of the year at Eastbourne, demonstrating the effectiveness of his partnership with coach Konfederak.

Previous Coaches
At the time of writing this article, there has not been any record of those who have coached Francisco in the past and considering the year the tennis star became a pro (2018), the player likely did not have a formal coach until now.
During his development, Francisco always trained at his father’s academy and progressed to the University of South Carolina in the US, where Cerundolo played tennis for the college.
This proves that Fran would not have needed a coach through this period since he could get enough guidance from his father, coaches at the academy, and the ones at his college.
Francisco sits at number 24 on the ATP Singles Ranking and has reached second (2) worldwide on the ITF Singles Ranking. He achieved both in July 2022 and September 2019, respectively.
