Born on 22nd December 1998, Casper Ruud is a professional tennis player hailing from Norway. His career took off at an incredible pace, as he earned the title of the highest-ranked Norwegian in history, achieving a world ranking of No. 2 in September 2022. With a tenacious grip on the clay court, Ruud has won ten ATP Tour singles titles, nine of which were achieved on clay courts. Additionally, he finished as a runner-up at the French Open and the US Open in 2022, along with the 2022 ATP Finals.
In 2023, Ruud took part in the inaugural United Cup, representing the Norway team. He won his first match against Thiago Monteiro but fell short in the second match against Matteo Berrettini, which led to the Norway team’s failure to progress to the knockout stage. Despite a setback in the Australian Open, and a struggle to maintain form during the early North American swing, Ruud bounced back and claimed his tenth ATP title at the clay court 2023 Estoril Open. This victory led to his move back to world No. 4.

Despite the spotlight that follows Ruud due to his successful tennis career, he manages to maintain a low profile when it comes to his personal life. Nonetheless, his love life is no secret. Ruud has been in a relationship with his girlfriend, Maria Galligani, since 2018. Both natives of Norway, the young couple has travelled the globe, following Ruud’s tournaments, with Galligani being a constant pillar of support as Ruud climbed the world rankings.
Maria Galligani was born and raised in Norway, just like Ruud, and the couple now resides in Oslo. She is an academic, having graduated with a degree in psychology from Oslo Nye Høyskole and later earned a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Southern Denmark. She also has experience working for a sports nutrition company. Their relationship became public knowledge in 2018, after Ruud posted their photo together on Instagram following trips to London and Paris.
Known to be a staunch supporter of Ruud, Galligani regularly watches Ruud’s matches from his family box, cheering him on through some of his biggest career milestones. She was on hand to cheer for Ruud at the 2022 Wimbledon, and later at the US Open, where Ruud reached a career-high ranking of world No. 2. Galligani has travelled the world with Ruud, exploring cities where his tournaments are held.
The couple also share a cute Malshi pup named Bajas Galligani Ruud, who even accompanies them on their travels sometimes. Ruud regularly shares endearing photos of himself and Galligani on Instagram, expressing his love and appreciation for his supportive girlfriend. Galligani returns the favor on her private Instagram profile, posting messages of support for Ruud after his games.
However, Ruud’s success hasn’t only affected his personal life, but also those around him. “When interest increases in line with my achievements, it trickles down to those around me too. Suddenly newspapers want to write about who this guy is and who those around him are,” Ruud explained in an interview with VG. His family and girlfriend have also had to deal with the increased attention. “It’s not attention they’ve asked for, but in a way they become public figures too when they’re around. They’ve been good at both accepting it and dealing with the situation,” he adds.
