Emma Raducanu Career
Emma was born in Toronto, but by the age of two she was already in London, where she was destined to enter the Bromley Tennis Academy. Radukanu first picked up a racket when she was only nine, and before that she had tried almost every sport from karting and horseback riding to ballet. Her parents – her mother is Chinese and her mother is Romanian – supported their daughter as she actively searched for her vocation.
Tennis came into Raducanu’s life unexpectedly and without warning: one weekend, the girl’s parents decided they absolutely had to spend a family day in the park and play tennis at the same time. Emma was so captivated by this sport that she had to forget about all the others and fully devote herself to training on the court. By the way, it’s not surprising that Emma’s tennis idols were Li Na of China and Simona Halep of Romania.
Emma distinguished herself in the junior championships, playing well at the 12U Winter European Cup, UK National Champion titles at 9U, 12U and 16U.
In 2020 she was included in the British Billie Jean King Cup squad which went to play Slovakia in Bratislava in February. At the end of the year she participated in the Brits Premier League of Tennis, where she won two victories and then lost to her more experienced compatriot Heather Watson.
