Emma Raducanu Career
Emma was born in Toronto, but by the age of two she was already in London, where she was destined to enter the Bromley Tennis Academy. Radukanu first picked up a racket when she was only nine, and before that she had tried almost every sport from karting and horseback riding to ballet. Her parents – her mother is Chinese and her mother is Romanian – supported their daughter as she actively searched for her vocation.
Tennis came into Raducanu’s life unexpectedly and without warning: one weekend, the girl’s parents decided they absolutely had to spend a family day in the park and play tennis at the same time. Emma was so captivated by this sport that she had to forget about all the others and fully devote herself to training on the court. By the way, it’s not surprising that Emma’s tennis idols were Li Na of China and Simona Halep of Romania.
Emma distinguished herself in the junior championships, playing well at the 12U Winter European Cup, UK National Champion titles at 9U, 12U and 16U.
In 2020 she was included in the British Billie Jean King Cup squad which went to play Slovakia in Bratislava in February. Emma was able to reach the final of a $25,000 ITF tournament in Sunderland in February and then won the St George’s Hill UK Pro Series Classic and Premier British Tour titles in the summer and winter later in the year.
At the end of the year she participated in the Brits Premier League of Tennis, where she won two victories and then lost to her more experienced compatriot Heather Watson.

Raducanu started season in June at the Nottingham tournament, where she immediately lost to her compatriot Harriet Dart. After that Emma reached the quarterfinals of ITF Nottingham, where she lost to Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria.
The real breakthrough was the performance of Emma Raducanu at Wimbledon . The young British player reached R16, where she could not get through to Ajla Tomljanovic because of a breathing problem. On her way to R16 Emma beat such experienced opponents as Vitalia Diatchenko, Marketa Vondrousova and Sorana Cirstea.
In August of this year, Raducanu reached her first WTA Final in Chicago, but couldn’t defeat more experienced Danish player Clara Tauson. Clara outlasted Raducanu in three sets to win her second title of the season.

In September 2021, Emma Raducanu won the US Open trophy by beating Leylah Fernandez in the final match, -6/4,6/3. Raducanu did not drop a single set on her way to the finals and became the first player to win a Slam after qualifying. Emma started this year’s US Open as the world’s 150th ranked player, and on Monday she climbed to No.23! In addition to a solid ranking boost, Radukanu received a check for $2.5 million.
Current Season
The athlete started her 2022 season in Sydney, where she lost her opening match to Elena Rybakina in two sets. At the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the British went to the second round of the competition beating American Sloane Stephens in three sets.
Radukanu can’t seem to find her rhythm and find her confidence. At the tournaments in Indian Wells, Miami, and Rome, the British player could not win more than one match. Emma did better at a tournament in Stuttgart, where she was able to reach the quarterfinals. Iga Swiatek, the future champion of the tournament, easily outplayed the British in two sets.
