As a junior player, McNally showcased her potential, reaching the final at the Wimbledon junior doubles tournament three times and winning her first major junior title at the 2018 French Open doubles event, partnering with Iga Świątek.
McNally made her debut on the WTA Tour at the 2017 Western & Southern Open in the doubles draw. Her singles debut in the WTA came later in February 2019 at the Dow Tennis Classic, which she won. The same year, she qualified for her first Grand Slam main-draw at Wimbledon. McNally achieved her first WTA tournament main-draw singles wins at the Washington Open where she made a run to the semifinals, defeating some high-ranked players along the way.
McNally’s first major win came at the US Open where she defeated Timea Bacsinszky. Even though she lost a tight second-round match against Serena Williams, she impressed with her performance. Teaming up with Coco Gauff, the pair dubbed “McCoco”, made a strong showing at the doubles event, beating several high-ranked teams and marking McNally’s entrance into the top 100 in the doubles rankings.
In 2020, McNally and Gauff reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open doubles, helping McNally break into the top 40 in the doubles rankings. Despite the break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, she continued to improve, reaching the third round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at the US Open.
In 2021, McNally made further strides in her career. She reached her second consecutive doubles quarterfinal at the Australian Open with Gauff, and they progressed to the final at the US Open, resulting in McNally reaching No. 22 in the WTA doubles rankings. In 2022, McNally won the St. Petersburg Trophy with Anna Kalinskaya, taking her to a career-high No. 16 in the doubles rankings. Unfortunately, her journey in Indian Wells and Miami was short-lived, facing early exits.
Her performance picked up again at the Reus WTA, reaching the quarterfinals, and in Paris, where she made a run to the final, defeating players like Tamara Zidansek, Nao Hibino, and Katie Volynets. Despite her best efforts, she was beaten by Diane Parry in the final. McNally’s last match was in Hertogenbosch, where she secured a win over Katie Volynets in the first round, but then fell to Celine Naef in the second round.
