The 2023 China Open is a tennis event set to be played outside on hard courts. The men’s event, in its 22nd edition, and the women’s event, in its 24th, will both happen at the National Tennis Center in Beijing. The men will play from 28 September to 4 October, and the women from 30 September to 8 October. This is the first China Open since 2019. The previous ones were canceled because of COVID-19 in China and concerns about Peng Shuai’s disappearance.
The tennis center covers 41.22 acres and has a space of 285,394 sq ft. It has 12 competition courts and 35 training courts. These include hard courts, indoor courts, grass courts, clay courts, and a mini court.
The main court, called Diamond Court or National Tennis Stadium, can hold 15,000 people. There are three other courts: Lotus Court, Moon Court, and Brad Drewett Court. Lotus can fit 10,000 people, Moon 4,000, and Brad Drewett 2,000.
ATP China Open Prize Money 2023
The prize pool for the ATP China Open has increased for the 2023 tennis season. The total prize money came to – $3,633,875, up 3.38% from the 2019 season. The champion in Beijing will receive just over 15% of that amount, $679,550 if he wins the trophy. The runner-up will also receive a handsome reward of $365,640 for his efforts. After the semifinals, the prize pool decreases significantly: the two losers in this round will each receive $194,860. Those eliminated in the quarterfinals will receive $99,560 for their efforts. In singles, the trophy will be contested by 32 athletes, while 16 will take part in the doubles event. The top seeds are the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz and Russian Daniil Medvedev.
The last event in 2019 was won by Dominic Thiem, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. An Austrian tennis player, Dominic Thiem, will not defend his title this year.
