Born on August 13, 1998, in Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina, Francisco Cerundolo hails from a family with strong ties to tennis. His father, Alejandro “El Toto,” is a professional tennis coach who played professionally in the 1980s, achieving a singles ranking of 309. Meanwhile, Francisco’s mother, Maria Luz, is a sports psychologist, further contributing to the tennis player’s well-rounded upbringing in the world of sports.
Fran started playing tennis at the age of 5 after he was introduced to the game by his parent and trained at his father’s academy. He grew up idolising Roger Federer and Argentine Legend David Nalbandian.
He has quite successful runs in the junior championships, with a record win of 73 to 36 losses, including five wins to 1 loss in 6 Challengers finals. Overall, he won 13 Challengers and Futures tournaments.

Starting the year at the Australian Open, Cerundolo displayed a strong performance against Guido Pella and Corentin Moutet before falling to Félix Auger-Aliassime in the third round.

The French Open was an especially bright spot in his season. Cerundolo defeated Yannick Hanfmann, Jaume Munar, and Taylor Fritz before being defeated by Holger Rune in a grueling five-setter in the round of 16.
