Tennis is a sport that often seems to be dominated by men. However, there are many women who are incredible athletes and deserve recognition. One such player is Emma Raducanu. She is a young tennis player who has already achieved great success at US Open 2021.
Emma Raducanu is a rising star in the world of professional tennis. The British tennis player has already made waves on the court, securing a career-high ranking of Number 10 by the Women’s Tennis Association. This impressive feat was accomplished on July 11th, 2022- just a mere two years after turning professional. In addition to her impressive ranking, Raducanu is also the current British Number One.
This prestigious title comes as no surprise to those who have followed Raducanu’s career thus far; she is a determined and talented player with a bright future ahead of her. Even more impressive, Raducanu is the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title at the US Open since Virginia Wade in 1977.
Who is the current coach of Emma Raducanu?
Raducanu’s decision to enlist the coaching talents of the former top-20 ATP player Dmitry Tursunov on a trial period has led to significant criticism of her decision to work alongside a Russian as the invasion of Ukraine continues. Some have questioned whether she is properly prepared to defend her US Open title, while others have accused her of betraying her country by working with a Russian coach. However, Raducanu remains confident in her ability to succeed, and she is hopeful that Tursunov will help her take her game to the next level.
Dmitry Tursunov is a Russian former professional tennis player. He reached his career-high ATP singles ranking of World No. 20 in August 2006 and won seven ATP Tour titles in singles. He also helped Russia win the 2006 Davis Cup.
Tursunov retired from playing on the professional tour on 28 August 2017 because of another injury. In 2011, he mentored a 17-year-old ATP player, Aslan Karatsev, for some time. He subsequently became the coach of WTA Tour tennis players Elena Vesnina and Aryna Sabalenka, Anett Kontaveit. The result of his work with Kontaveit and Sabalenka, was the entry of tennis players into the top 10 of the WTA ranking.
Past Coaches
Torben Beltz
British tennis player Emma Raducanu commented on the beginning of cooperation with the 44-year-old German Torben Beltz in November 2021.
“Of course, it will be very useful to work with such an experienced coach. I’m very happy to be able to work with him in the offseason and next year. Very positive about the work,” Jose Morgado, the US Open champion, was quoted as saying in her tweet.

The British teenager then split from Beltz in April 2022. Raducanu opened up about her decision to keep rotating her coaches, telling the Wall Street Journal Magazine: “It might not work for anyone else, and people might look at me like I’m crazy, but I trust my own decision-making.”
Andrew Richardson
After such a breakthrough at Wimbledon 2021, no one expected Emma to change coaches. Another British player Andrew Richardson became a new coach for Raducanu.
Andrew Richardson is a former professional tennis player who never won a single ATP title in his career. His best result was a climb to the 133rd ATP ranking in 1997.
Richardson was chosen based on his familiarity with Raducanu and her game, not his experience on the professional tour. It is said that it was Ian Raducanu who changed his daughter’s coach after her breakthrough Wimbledon – firing Nigel Sears and hiring her children’s coach Andrew Richardson on probation
Previously a head coach at the Bromley Tennis Center in southeast London, Richardson helped lay the groundwork for Raducanu when she was just a little girl.
Nigel Sears
And the best part is that Emma has had such success with different coaches. At Wimbledon 2021, the British woman was helped by the experienced Nigel Sears. As a professional player, Sears did not have much success, his best result was the 382nd ATP ranking, which he reached in 1982. Nigel began his coaching career in 2001. He worked with tennis players such as Amanda Coetzer, Daniela Hantuchová and Ana Ivanovic, Anett Kontaveit during his long career.
