Described as a “great prospect” and one of the breakout players of 2023, eighteen years old girl with no more restrictions on the number of tournaments she can play and show her full potential, is Czech Linda Noskova.
Linda Noskova was born on 17th November 2004 in the village of Bystricka, in the Vsetin region, Czech Republic. Her parents are Drahos Noskov and Ivana Noskova. At the age of six, she was introduced to tennis by her father and the next year she started training at the local courts in Valasske Mezirici.
When she was ten, she became a player for TK Na Dolina. While training there she became the indoor champion of the Czech Republic in singles and doubles, playing alongside another talented tennis player, Linda Fruhvirtova.
Sometimes she was going to Prostejov to train at TK Agrofert and once a month she was traveling to Switzerland to practice with Martina Hingis’ mother, Melanie Molitorova. They mainly worked on her hitting technique. But as time passed, she began to experience lack of sparring and trainers were not available on a regular basis, so in 2018 she moved to Prerov where she currently resides and trains.
“If I hadn’t made that decision, I wouldn’t be playing the way I am now. Looking back, I’m glad I did.” she admits.
She has well-balanced game, likes to get inside the baseline and shows good attacking intent, especially on the forehand side. Linda also has a solid serve and looks composed on court.
Like many other young players, in order to attend courses online, she enrolls in a High School of Economics in Mlada Boleslav. She doesn’t have many friends and like she said, she hasn’t seen her best friend for two years.
Linda’s idol while growing up was Serena Williams and she had a chance to play against her and Venus, in their final doubles match of their career.
“I like her mentality the most. How she can inspire people, the way she plays, how aggressive she is.” said Linda about her favorite tennis player.
Who Is Linda Noskova’s Coach?
Tomasz Krupa
Since 2020, Linda’s coach is her compatriot and former tennis player, Tomasz Krupa.
Tomasz Krupa was born on 14th November 1972 in Koprivnice, Czech Republic. He was introduced to tennis by his dad who played hockey, but was passionate recreational tennis player. When he was sixteen, he went to the top youth center in Prerov where only representatives were training. Krupa was a doubles specialist and had best career ranking of no.124.
He won a total of four titles on the Challenger circuit. After an elbow surgery he had, his career was not what he had imagined and then he got into coaching, at first his compatriot Ctislav Dosedel.
Then he coached Radek Stepanek, with whom his biggest success was winning the ATP 500 tournament Rotterdam Open, and leading him to the 8th place in the ATP rankings.
From 2009 until 2014 Krupa coached another Czech, Tomas Berdych. He got him to the 2010 Wimbledon final and four ATP titles. From the position of coach, he also worked with Jiri Vesely, Karolina Pliskova and Barbora Strycova.
During the Covid pandemic period and traveling restrictions, he spent three months in Prerov playing tennis with his younger son. Since Linda trained there and he knows her agent Fabio, they agreed to start their collaboration.
“This is the first time I have led a young ward like this. So, I’m also learning and getting to know each other. I’m not exactly a patient person and Linda is 16 years old. Before I praise or criticize her, I need to consider it well.” said Krupa at the beginning of his time with Noskova.
In the first year mentored by Krupa, Linda made her debut at the WTA Challenger Tour, playing at the Sparta Prague Open. And already in the following year she started winning titles. In March she won her first senior ITF title in Bratislava and by the end of the season she won three more. But maybe the most important and her favorite title form that season is 2021 Junior French Open champion. That led her to the World no.5 in the junior rankings.
“For young players like Linda, training is important, especially if you are out of a tournament early, don’t play doubles or win smoothly, and don’t spend too much time on the court during a match. Linda should and wants to train, which she definitely needs.” said Krupa
Season 2022 was for debuts at Grand Slams, both in singles and doubles. Firstly, she made to the main-draw at the French Open as a qualifier, becoming the youngest Czech player to compete at a major. Later, at the US Open, in her debut major doubles match she defeated the sisters Williams, fulfilling her childhood dream to play against her idol.
During that year she won three more titles on ITF circuit, which led her into the top 100 for the first time, becoming the youngest woman to do so.
Linda started season 2023 with style, by reaching her first WTA final at Adelaide International 1, where she also made her first win against top-10 player. This result led her to career-high ranking of World no.50 at the latest WTA list.
“I get the feeling from Linda that she doesn’t care where and with whom she plays. On which court and if in the morning or in the evening. She just goes to play tennis and it’s very cool. It is important that she wants to play and enjoys it.” Krupa commented about his trainee.
