Currently the top-ranked tennis player from France, the only one in the top 30 players in both WTA and ATP ranking, the girl for whom season 2022 was the year of her dreams, is 29-years-old Caroline Garcia.
Caroline “Caro” Garcia was born 16th October 1993 in Saint-Germain-un-Laye, France. Shortly after the whole family moved to Bron, a suburb of Lyon. Caroline started playing tennis since she was seven, introduced to this sport by her father, who was her coach for more than 15 years.
She is an offensive baseliner with a strong service game, known for its accuracy. Also, she is recognized for her forehand, out of it she can hit many clean winners.
During her junior career she had her best results in her last year as a junior, when she played US Open final and reached the semi-finals at the other three Grand Slams.
Caroline turned pro in 2011 and impressed everyone with her performance as rookie. After defeating Maria Sharapova in the second round of Roland Garros, even Andy Murray praised her:
“The girl Sharapova is playing, is going to be number one in the world one day. She is exceptionally talented.” he wrote on Twitter.
Since then Caroline won eleven WTA singles titles, out of which the biggest is the WTA Finals in 2022. Among others, more significant are Cincinnati 2022, Wuhan 2017, and Beijing 2017. She is also a top-rated player in doubles, World No.2 at the moment, and has won seven WTA doubles titles so far, five of them playing with her compatriot Kristina Mladenovic. They won Rolland Garros on two occasions, in season 2016 and 2022.
With the French national team, she won the Fed Cup 2019 (now known as Billie Jean King Cup) and two times represented France at the Olympics.
When not preoccupied with tennis, Caroline follows basketball and football. She is a good friend with former basketball player Tony Parker who is owner of basketball club Lyon-Villeurbanne.
Also, she is a big football fan and her favorite club is Olympique Lyon, whose matches she often attends.
Who Are Caroline Garcia’s Parents?
Caroline Garcia comes from a family of mixed descent. She is the only child of Louis-Paul and Mary-Lene Garcia. Her father Louis-Paul originates from the Spanish Costa Blanca region, while her mother is from France.
Louis is an academician as he has Master degrees from SCPO Paris and CPA HEC Paris. He used to work as a salesperson, but after noticing Caro’s genuine talent for tennis, he started prioritizing her development and became her full-time coach. Like he said in an interview back in 2018, that was very challenging job:
“It’s not easy because I want to be a good father. I try my best (laughs) but it’s not easy to be a father and coach at the same time.”
He never pressured her to succeed in the sport, they focused on the journey together, rather than the destination.
“The goals will happen because we’re on the road, that’s the way we try to work. I think it’s the good way because if you just focus on targets, frustration can come too quickly.” said Louis.
And they really happen. Together they achieved significant success, but in 2021 he stepped down to take a role in her management team, after more than 15 years of mentoring her. As she wanted to improve her game and push to a higher level, Caro hired skilled professionals to go big.
On the other hand, there is no much information about Caro’s mother, Mary-Lene, even though on multiple occasions she has been spotted cheering her daughter from the stands. She prefers to keep to herself and don’t share information on social media, same as Louis.
They don’t have Instagram accounts and pretty much stay out of public eye. But both are very supportive of their daughter since the start of her career, giving her advice on every issue.

“My parents are sometimes the people I share with the most. They help me just stay in the present and understand what’s going on and it’s part of being normal.”
Caro often shows publicly her love to her parents and share photos of them on Instagram, together with her dog Endy.
As of her personal love live, is believed she is single at the moment. The off-season period, right after winning the WTA finals, she used it for two weeks’ vacation on Bali, Indonesia.
She posted pictures from there, in which it can be seen that she is in the company of a friend. Currently Caroline is taking a short break from United Cup played in Perth, Australia a few days ago, where she represented France, after which she will start preparing for the first Grand Slam of the season.
