Belarus Victoria Azarenka failed to overcome the barrier of the 1/4 finals of the tournament in Acapulco, losing in three sets to American Sofia Kenin – 4/6, 6/4, 5/7.
The match lasted 2 hours and 32 minutes. Azarenka, 29, who is in 50th place in the WTA ranking, took the opponent’s ticket seven times, made five aces and six double faults. The 35th racket of the world, 20-year-old Sofia recorded eight breaks and two aces, having made a mistake 13 times when serving.
Previously between the athletes have not met. In the semifinals of the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL competition, Kenin will face off with Canadian Bianca Andreescu, who defeated Chinese Zheng SaiSai, 7/6 (3), 6/1.
