American tennis player Venus Williams overcame the barrier of the second round of competition in Auckland, beating her compatriot Lauren Davis in two games – 6/4, 6/3. The match lasted 1 hour and 34 minutes. The 39th WTA rating number, 38-year-old Venus, made three breaks and two aces, mistaken twice when serving. Davis, 25, who is ranked 173rd in the world classification, took an opponent one time, made two aces and four double faults. Williams increased the gap in the personal meetings of the athletes – 3: 0. In the 1/4 finals of the ASB Classic tournament Venus will play either with the Danish Caroline Wozniacki or with the Canadian Bianca Andreescu.
