Tommy Paul was born on May 17, 1997, in Voorhees Township, a small town in New Jersey with a population of just over 29,000. When Tommy was only seven years old, his parents, Kevin and Jill Paul, introduced him to tennis. Since then, he has been actively playing the sport. Besides Tommy, the family also includes his sister, Jesse Lynn, and brother, Dylan.
When Tommy was just three months old, his family moved to Greenville, North Carolina. Here, he learned the basics of tennis, practicing mostly on clay courts, which is unusual for American tennis academies. Growing up, Tommy admired the on-court action of fellow American Andy Roddick.
