One of the strongest, most complete and beloved tennis players of these years is surely the Romanian Simona Halep. Former number 1 in the WTA rankings and winner of SLAMs, Simona is loved for her fighting spirit and her very aggressive game – which actually contrasts with a small body (168cm) and a very sweet face.
Simona’s beginnings were certainly not those of a predestined but after a long apprenticeship – also made of many disappointments – she arrived at 26 years old to touch the top of the WTA after the victory at the French Open in 2018.
A tennis player with long-standing ties to the American racquet manufacturer Wilson, she has recently changed her line, moving from the old Burn to a more modern and aggressive Wilson Blade that she chooses in the 98 Countervail 16×19 version.
Simona Halep’s Racquet is Wilson Blade 98
- Head Size:98 in / 632.26 cm.
- Length:27in / 68.58cm
- Strung Weight:11.4oz / 323g
With the new version of the Blade 98 16×19, Wilson doubles down on the feel typical of the Blade line. As with the previous generation, this racquet combines clean, sleek styling with the same velvety finish initially launched with Federer’s Pro Staff RF97 Autograph.
Offering more balance on the head than its predecessors, this version is designed to move a bit faster, while still maintaining a swing weight of 325-RDC, which gives it explosive power due in part to its weight. Although this version no longer comes with Countervail technology, the racquet has a stiffness of 62RA. It also features FeelFlex technology, which uses a Carbon structure for more stability in twisting while allowing the racquet to bend in a way that is useful for the explosive mechanics of the modern game. Wilson also added a special handle design that increases grip length, making it easier to position your hands for two-handed backhands.
From the baseline, the racquet feels very solid and ball impact is simply incredible. Full swings achieve plenty of power and the high level of control allows you to hit the lines. At the net, the Blade 98 16×19 is fast for a racquet with a swingweight of 325+.
The racquet is perfect for net play, precise in its bunts, offering maximum control. Players who are able to use the racquet quickly achieve excellent spin and exit speed, making the opponent’s response complicated. We can conclude by saying that although some technologies have been removed, great improvements have been made to the feel that the Blade 98 16×19 offers, continuing to be one of the best racquets in its field.
