In 2020, the Palermo Ladies Open was the first tournament to be held after the pause in the tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With restrictions limiting the audience to 350 people, including staff and journalists, the event marked a turning point in international tennis. This was particularly significant as Italy was one of the first countries to be severely impacted by the pandemic.
