The AGEL Open is a professional tennis tournament that will be played on hard courts at the Ostrava Arena in Ostrava, Czech Republic. The event is scheduled to take place between October 3 and October 9, 2022. The tournament features a singles draw of 32 players and a doubles draw of 16 teams. This will be the third consecutive year that the Ostrava Open has been held in the alternative sporting calendar due to the cancellation of tournaments in China during the 2022 season because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic It is currently part of the WTA Tour and is classified as a WTA 500 event. The tournament will feature many of the top female tennis players in the world and is sure to be an exciting event for both fans and players alike.
Last year’s event was won by Anett Kontaveit, beating Maria Sakkari in the final. This year Kontaveit will start her title defense in the second round with a match against Tereza Martincova. However, for 2022 it has switched to Euros which you’d expect for a European tournament. The winner in Ostrava will take home €93,823, an increase of 69.7% vs 12 months ago. The runner-up gets a 41.1% pay rise vs 2021 with €58,032 in prize money.
