Tennis continues to flourish among women, and each day brings a new star to the forefront. Today, we’ll be focusing on Marie Bouzkova, a Czech-born professional tennis player who gained prominence after her triumphant victory at the 2022 Prague Open.
Born in the Czech Republic on July 21, 1998, 24-year-old Marie Bouzkova hails from a family of avid tennis enthusiasts. Her parents, Milan and Kveta Bouzkova, owned a tennis club in Prague where she began her journey in the sport. At just 10 years old, Marie moved to Florida to further her training at the prestigious Bollettieri Academy.
After two years, Marie decided to leave the academy and began working with her father, Milan. In 2014, she switched coaches once again and teamed up with Cristian Requeni.
Marie’s junior career was marked with significant achievements, including winning the 2014 US Open Girls’ Singles title after defeating Anhelina Kalinina in the final match.
Marie turned pro in 2013, prior to her US Open Girls’ victory, and competed in various ITF tournaments. She went on to secure 12 Singles and three Doubles titles at the ITF level before shifting her focus to WTA Tours.
She made a strong impression in 2019 at the Rogers Cup by reaching the semifinals. During the event, Marie defeated notable players such as Sloane Stephens, Jeļena Ostapenko, and Simona Halep, ultimately facing off against former world number 1, Serena Williams, in the semifinal match. Although she didn’t win, Marie managed to take the match to three sets, even claiming the first set 6-1.
Throughout her career, Marie has captured one Single and three Doubles titles on the WTA Tours. She has also achieved career-high rankings of 24 in both Singles and Doubles. Currently, Marie holds rankings of 31 and 159 in the Singles and Doubles categories, respectively.
