Liudmila Dmitriyevna Samsonova is a Russian-born female tennis player who started her professional career as an Italian player before switching back to her home country. She was born on the 11th of November, 1998, to the family of Dmitry and Svetlana Samsonova in Olenegorsk, Russia.
Her father, Dmitry, was a professional tennis player and was called to play for an Italian tennis team, Ferentino, in 1999 when Liudmila was 1. This led to the family’s relocation to Torino in Italy, where Liudmila was raised.
Liudmila was asked to choose between playing table tennis and lawn tennis at the age of 6 by her father, and she opted for lawn tennis to mark the dawn of her career. She began training at the same age at Riccardo Piatti Tennis Academy in Sanremo under the funding of the grassroots tennis federation of the city.
Consequently, Liudmila progressed in her junior career and reached a career highest ranking of 65 in 2016. However, she already made her professional debut three years back at an ITF Circuit in Umag. She finally started gaining recognition in 2021 when she made her way into the World Top 50 ranking till she achieved a career highest ranking of 25 in the same year.
Liudmila currently ranks 45 in the World’s Singles Ranking and is 375 under the Doubles category. She has also recorded two Singles titles, the recent one at the just concluded 2022 Citi Open in Washington.
