Czech tennis player Karolina Pliskova overcame the barrier of the 1/8 finals of the Eastbourne competition, defeating Belgian Elise Mertens, 6/1, 6/2.
For 58 minutes of the match, the third racket of the world, 27-year-old Carolina, made four breaks and five aces, making a double mistake in the serve. 23-year-old Mertens, ranked 21st in the world classification, made two aces and five double faults.
Previously between the athletes have not met. In the duel for reaching the semifinals of the Nature Valley Open tournament, Pliskova will play with Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova.
