Belgian tennis player Elise Mertens overcame the barrier of the second round of the Doha tournament, beating Czech Kristyna Pliskova in two sets – 6/2, 7/6 (3).
The match lasted 1 hour 47 minutes. The 21st racket of the world, 23-year-old Elise, made five breaks and three aces, having made a mistake three times in the pitch. Pliskova, 26, who occupies the 90th place in the world table of ranks, took a rival three times, made one ace and six double faults.
Previously between the athletes have not met. In the quarterfinals of the Qatar Total Open competition, Mertens will play with the Dutchwoman Kiki Bertens.
