Diego Schwartzman: This week was very emotional

Argentine tennis player Diego Schwartzman won his first trophy of the season at the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires. The most interesting thing is that Schwartzman became the first Argentine in 13 years to win a home competition. The title in Buenos Aires was the 4th of the Argentine’s career and earned him 250 ranking points.

In his post-match interview, Schwartzman shared his emotions from his 6-1,6-2 victory over Francisco Cerundolo in the final match:

This week was very emotional because my friends and family were at the tournament. Two years ago I made it to the finals, but I lost. That was a sad moment. Luckily, now I was able to beat a great player.

He also had a great week. I’ve been following him since qualifying, we’ve even discussed his matches. I know his family. They were at the same club where I started playing.

Schwartzman didn’t not drop a set all week in Buenos Aires, and only lost his serve three times en route to the trophy.
