Victory in Palermo
American Danielle Collins, 27, commented on winning the first WTA title of her career in Palermo.
“I finally won the tournament and it gave me so much confidence. I’ve been on the tour for a few years now, and that was one of my goals.
Judging by the results, I’m obviously getting better, getting further through the tournaments. That’s been my goal for the last month.”
In the past month, she has reached the quarterfinals in Hamburg, the semifinals in Budapest and now has won the title in Palermo.
How do you deal with the negativity?
Palermo tournament champion, Danielle Collins, shared how she deals with the negativity against her.
“I play for myself, not for the haters. It doesn’t bother me in any way. If somebody doesn’t like me, if they don’t believe in what I do or think I’m not a good tennis player, I don’t care. I’m doing it for myself, for my enjoyment and my career.
I try to focus on the positive people who support me along the way, all the people who believed in me. And the support is much more important than the words of those who may have doubted me”-said Collins.
Next Tournament in San Jose
Tomorrow the athlete will begin her performance at the tournament in San Jose with a match against her compatriot Shelby Rogers. The two athletes haven’t faced each other yet so we don’t have a clear favorite. Collins has competed in the San Jose tournament twice in 2018 and 2019. In 2018 the athlete even managed to reach the semifinals of the competition, where she lost in a tense match to Maria Sakkari from Greece.
