Swiss tennis player Belinda Bencic shared her impressions of reaching the semifinals of the tournament in Dubai.
“I feel just fine. I’m glad that I am performing at such a high level again. I was sure that I would be able to return even after all the injuries I had suffered. However, this is a very long process. The level of competition in Tours is very high. You cannot reach the semi-finals or the finals immediately. It is simply impossible. However, I understood that I could walk this whole way, and now I am here.
I didn’t care at all that everyone had forgotten about me. I do not need to be constantly in the spotlight. Absolutely calm attitude to his presence, and to his absence. Honestly, I even liked to compete in ITF tournaments. There you feel completely free.
I needed to start from the bottom, but it was a good experience. If I immediately began to play at major competitions, I would face pressure. In smaller tournaments, no one expected anything from me, and I managed to quickly regain confidence in my abilities.
Personally, it seems to me that it is useful for everyone to go through such a period. Now in the Top 10 there are athletes who are experiencing certain problems, because for them it is all new, they do not understand how to cope with it. Without a doubt, they will figure it out, but now it’s hard. See, I’m only 21 years old, and I’m already so wise (laughs).
Today, the father on the court said a very good thing to me: “Do you even realize who you are playing against and in which tournament? Be more modest. This is really good advice,”- the WTA press service quoted Bencic as saying.
