WTA Adelaide International Entry List Will Be Headed by Elena Rybakina
Rybakina, the top seed, enters Adelaide on a high after winning the Brisbane International. She impressively defeated World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka in the final, losing only three games. Rybakina, receiving a first-round bye in Adelaide, will begin her campaign in the second round against either Jasmine Paolini or a yet-to-be-determined qualifier.
“I’m excited to return and compete in Adelaide,” said Rybakina. “The city welcomes us and brings out our best tennis.”
Unfortunately, Angelique Kerber, Ajla Tomljanovic, and Anastasia Potapova have withdrawn. Their spots will be filled by lucky losers.
Other top players in the draw include No.3 seed Marketa Vondrousova, No.6 Jelena Ostapenko, and No.8 Veronika Kudermetova. Vondrousova, who had a mixed run at the United Cup, starts against a qualifier. Ostapenko, coming off a quarterfinal appearance in Brisbane, faces Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in her opener.
Second-seed Jessica Pegula, seeking to regain her form after a shaky United Cup, expressed mixed feelings: “I don’t feel great… I’m not really in great form right now, but I’m still finding ways.” Despite these challenges, she remains optimistic about her performance, focusing on reducing errors and improving her game. Pegula, also with a first-round bye, will play either Paula Badosa or a qualifier next. A potential quarterfinal against fifth-seed Beatriz Haddad Maia looms.
