He has been ranked as high as No 3 in the world, reached the semi-finals of three of the four Grand Slams, and won eight titles – including the ATP Finals. Dimitrov is considered a talent unfulfilled by some, as he was the boys’ champion at Wimbledon and his style of play drew immediate comparisons with Roger Federer. However, he remains one of the top players in the world and is a force to be reckoned with on the court.
Grigor Dimitrov’s Playing style
Grigor Dimitrov is an all-around player with a very unusual playing style. He is known for his hustle, athleticism, fluid style of play and exceptional shot-making. He employs an eastern to semi-western grip on his forehand and uses his elbow, wrist, and arm to generate power instead of his body. His forehand is very heavy, powerful and accurate. He also has a very versatile backhand that can be hit with top-spin, flat, or with a backhand slice. Dimitrov also has a solid fast serve that often reaches 210 km/h (130 mph). One aspect of Dimitrov’s game that has been widely praised is his variety and flexibility. He is comfortable playing on all areas of the court and is an aggressive player that likes to take risks. His all-round play has had many commentators and past players call him “classy” and “stylish”.
