The Slovenia Open, or Zavarovalnica Sava Portoroz as it is known now due to sponsorship, is a WTA 250 level tournament that is played on outdoor hard courts. The tournament was originally established in 2005 and was held at the Tennis Club Portoroz. The tournament continued to be held at this venue until 2010 when it took a hiatus from the tour. In 2021, the Slovenia Open made its return to the tour and will once again be held at the Tennis Club Portoroz. One of the benefits of this tournament being held in Europe is that it allows European players who made an early exit from the US Open to head back over the Atlantic and straight back into competitive play. This is a great opportunity for these players to fine-tune their skills and get some more match practice before the end of the season. Overall, the Slovenia Open is an important event on the WTA Tour calendar and one that should not be missed.
