Jessica Pegula Playing Style
Jessica Pegula, who grew up playing tennis on clay courts, says that it can be difficult to adjust her game when the clay court season comes around. “I think I have become more of a hard-court player,” she says, “but sometimes I think I have to remind myself that I grew up playing on clay.” While Pegula doesn’t hate playing on clay, she admits that it can be frustrating at times. “You can still play good tennis,” she says, “but it’s not the end of the world that it’s clay-court season.”
Her coach, David Witt, add some details about Pegula’s playing style
Jessica Pegula and I have fun while we’re working hard. We’re both down to earth, pretty relaxed. I think it’s great to play and work on her volleys, work on just different shots and touch and movement at the net. And I think she enjoys it. It’s the type of thing where you go out there with one of your good friends and you play doubles, and they have fun away from the pressure and the seriousness of the singles. But, yeah, she loves playing doubles and we plan on continuing to play doubles every time she can get in.
What racket does Pegula use?
Jessica Pegula uses the Yonex Ezone 98 racquet with POLYTOUR REV 16L/1.25 Strings. She uses the Yonex Pro Racket Blue Bag (9 Rackets) to stack all of her tennis equipment.

The Yonex EZONE 98 is one of the most comfortable and modern racquets available on the market. It has been updated for 2022 with new technologies and features that improve its overall performance. The Linear Tech system reduces string friction on the frame for extra comfort and power. This technology also provides less spacing in the middle and more at the sides, improving shock absorption on off-center hits.
To increase stability and optimize flexibility at impact, Yonex used a unique, strong and elastic graphite called M40X in the throat. This racquet also features Vibration Dampening Mesh technology in the handle to decrease vibration and have a cleaner ball impact. On the forehands, the EZONE 98 provides excellent levels of speed, spin and precision.
Compared to the previous version, it is much more responsive and elastic at the top of the head. With a lower swingweight of 320-RDC, this racquet isn’t as stable as a traditional one, but the light weight and easy acceleration come in handy for extra spin and strokes on the run.
At net, the EZONE 98 moves well and has great touch for those who like to make their opponent move. Aggressive hitters will find excellent levels of precision, power and spin potential in full swings. Overall, with overall feel improvements, this update to the EZONE 98 is a great option for intermediate and advanced players looking for lightness, feel and playability.
