Caroline Garcia is a household name in the world of tennis as she boasts several individual and team achievements. She has made the World’s Top 10 Ranking in both the Singles and Doubles categories.

Caroline was born in Paris, the capital of France, on the 16^th of October 1993 to the family of Louis Paul Garcia and Marylene. Her father was a tennis lover and her long-term coach. According to our sources, Carolina played different sports when she was younger and eventually decided to play tennis which she enjoyed the most.  She began her pro career in 2011 after earning a wild card to participate in the Australian Open.

The tennis star first made waves during the first year of her professional career (2011), facing the then number one, Maria Sharapova, in a match and lost the game. Although she lost the game, she beat Sharapova in straight sets, which surprised many of the onlookers. 

Andy Murray appreciated her superb display and could not help but tweet:  “The girl Sharapova is playing is going to be number one in the world one day … what a player”.

Who Is The Current Coach of Caroline Garcia

The current coach of Caroline Garcia is Gabriel Urpi Ribas, who started coaching her in May 2021 after she ended her long-term coaching relationship with her father and coach, Louis Paul Garcia.

Urpi was born in El Vendrell in Spain and played professional tennis in the 70s and 80s. Although he had quite an amazing career, he did not record any professional career titles in both Singles and Doubles Categories. His highest title was an Orange Bowl in 1978 and reaching the semi-final of the 1987 Bordeaux Open.

Before his retirement, he attained the highest career rankings of 106 and 182 in the Singles and Doubles categories. Upon beginning his coaching career, he moved on to manage Flavia Panetta. The coach developed a long-term relationship with the Italian, who recorded 28 titles before her retirement. Flavia also made it to World’s number 1 in the Doubles Category in 2011.

Urpi also worked with Arantxa Sanchez Vicario between 1994 and 1995 and was able to guide her to two Grand slam titles before proceeding to coach Conchita Martinez to the Australian Open Final in 1998. He concluded his coaching journey with other players before Carolina by spending some period with Elina Svitolina and Nicolas Mahut.

He took charge of Carolina at a rather difficult period of her career as she lost her form in 2021 and lost back-to-back matches. Eventually, she fell out of the World Top 70 Ranking in the Singles Category from being the World Number 4.

However, Urpi seems to be quite impactful as she gradually regained her form and now sits at number 32 on the World Ranking. She has also won three career titles so far in 2022 with Urpi.

Bertrand Perret

According to various sources, it is said that Bertrand Perret was a coach to Carolina Garcia sometime around 2019; however, we could not get any tangible evidence to back this up. So, they may have maintained a secretive relationship (a tactic, we think).

To investigate more about this, Bertrand’s profile on the WTA website shows that he had coached Ons Jabeur, Tatjana Maria, Renata Zarazua, and Shuai Peng from China with no links to the time he claimed he spent with Carolina Garcia.

As we have stated, we believe the coach and the player relationship between them must have been either secretive or too short to be acknowledged to a large extent.

Louis Paul Garcia

Paul is the father of Carolina and has been her coach since she began playing tennis. He was the man behind her development through all tennis stages and has been critical to her success.

Their time together was full of memories and incredible achievements because Carolina was able to bring her once unexpected dreams to reality under her father. She won about 13 of her overall 16 professional career titles under him.

After several disappointments in 2020 and 2021, the duo decided to end the coach and player relationship and provides an opportunity for an external professional coach to help her regain her lost form. The decision was helpful as Carolina is gradually getting back on track.

International Achievements Of Carolina Garcia

Apart from representing herself, Carolina has been a significant player in the France National Tennis Team since 2013. She has consecutively represented her country at the Billie Jean King Cup and was a key member of the team that won the 2019 title at the tournament.

Caroline also made appearances for France at the Federation Cup and Olympics in 2016. So far in these tournaments, she had won the Federation Cup alongside her long-term partner Mladenovic when they defeated Ashleigh Barty and Sam Stosur of Australia in the finals of 2019.

Notably, she was awarded the Fed Cup Heart in 2016 in recognition of her efforts and contributions to getting the France team to the finals of the Fed Cup during that year.
