John Isner Career
John Isner was born in Greensboro, USA, on April 26, 1985. He hit the court at the age of nine and, unlike the vast majority of his peers, didn’t decide on a career right away. Rather than make his way to the adult tour, he opted to get an education first, graduating from the University of Georgia.
Isner made his debut in the Futures Series in 2003. Although the American received an invitation to the doubles competition at the U.S. Open that season, he turned pro quite late, at the age of 22. However, John had a lot of enthusiasm: he soon won his first Futures title, then the Challenger, and in August made it to his debut ATP tournament final, where, however, he lost to the more experienced Andy Roddick. The progress he made was logically reflected in his statistics: soon John made an unprecedented ranking leap, rising from the eighth hundred to the second hundred.
In the next season the American managed to play in the majors and also win his first ATP trophy (doubles). Despite the lack of significant successes backed by titles, he would make his debut in the top 40 as early as the following year.
First ATP Title
2010 was one of the most successful years of Isner’s career: the American won a tournament in Auckland, made his debut for the national team and had several impressive duels at the Masters and Majors (in particular, reaching the 4th round for the first time at the Australian Open), which enabled him to end the season already in the top 20.
The next year was rather uneventful for Isner, but 2012 brought him his first career victory over an extra-class opponent – Roger Federer.
