Today Felix Auger Aliassime will try to take revenge on Andreas Seppi, whom he lost in four sets at Roland Garros. Seppi enters the second round after defeating Yasutaka Uchiyama and is used to the courts in the City Open.
Progress so far this season
Prior to his second-round match in Washington, Felix assessed his performance this season.
“I tried to work hard and give it my best every week. There have been ups and downs, but I think that’s the way the season is. We play so many tournaments, the season is 11 months long, so it’s impossible to always be on the upswing. But I’ve been able to take advantage when I’ve been feeling good, playing well, and getting results.
Sometimes I’ve been a little better, sometimes worse, but at the end of the day I’m happy that I made it to the top 15, made it to the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam for the first time. I’m going in the right direction,” the Canadian said.
He also shared the spirit with which he tries to come to tournaments.
“Tony and I try to develop that type of mindset – a championship mindset, as I call it. To keep me in the present, be humble, not worry too much about the future, not get too upset about the past. That’s the kind of vision we strive for, and I hope that one day I can get closer to that near-perfect balance.
I played well on hard at the beginning of the year, so I want to have a good next couple of weeks of the hard season to gain confidence and get results.
I’m trying to focus only on the current week. There are so many in the season. I feel like you have to stay in the present for stability.
It’s easy to start getting ahead of ourselves and hoping to get to the bottom line, so I’ll try to stay in the present. We don’t know what the future holds,” Felix added.
