The current season can already be called one of the most successful in the career of Sorana Cirstea. The Romanian has twice played in the finals of WTA tournaments, where she won once. She won her second career title beating Elise Mertens in Istanbul, -6/1,7/6. Victory in Istanbul brought Sorana $29,200 in prize money.

Sorana Cirstea Career
Sorana-Michaela Cirstea was born on April 7, 1990, in Bucharest. The girl was born into the family of Liliana and Mihai, where, in addition to her, there is a son Michni. Currently, the tennis player lives in Targoviste in southern Romania. Sorana made her life choice very early when at the age of four she attended her first tennis practice.
Sorana excelled at the junior level, becoming the first racket of the world among athletes under the age of 14. She then went on to win the 2006 Orange Bowl doubles title. The same year, she also reached the 2006 Roland Garros Junior doubles finals, climbing up to No. 6 in the rankings.
In 2006, the athlete already started playing on the adult WTA Tour. In the next couple of years she managed to win four ITF titles.
First WTA title
Sorana won her first WTA Tour title in 2008 at Tashkent, beating Sabine Lisicki of Germany -2/6, 6/4, 7/6 in the final.
In subsequent years, the athlete was not very confident and could not break through to the decisive stage of WTA tournaments.
In 2015 Sorana had a very weak year and left the top 100 of the WTA ranking and ended the year on the 244th line of the world ranking. The following year, after a number of successful performances, Cirstea was able to return to the top 100 of the WTA rankings.
Then Sorana’s game declined again and in 2019-2020, the athlete barely stayed in the top 100 of the WTA rankings.
At Grand Slam tournaments, the Romanian’s greatest achievement was reaching the ¼ finals at the 2009 French Open.
