Anett Kontaveit is a rising star in the world of professional tennis. Born in Tallinn, Estonia, she has been ranked as high as world No. 2 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), which she first achieved on 6 June 2022. Anett Kontaveit Career
Estonia’s most famous tennis player was born in late 1995 in Tallinn. Anett was brought to the sports section by her mother at the age of six. She immediately proved herself as the most promising tennis player in Estonia and later in the world.
Already in 2009, Kontaveit becomes the champion of the country at the age of 14, a year later repeats her success. In 2011 young Anett was invited to the national team at the Federation Cup to defend the honor of Estonia.
That same season the Estonian won the prestigious Orange Bowl junior tournament, and the following year she reached the finals of the US Open. As a result of the season, Kontaveit becomes fourth in the ranking.
In 2012 the Estonians began to play among adults. Her first successes came a year later in the form of several finals of the ITF 25-thousandth. That same season she made her WTA Tour debut at a tournament in Auckland, New Zealand.
For the next few seasons, Kontaveit’s game didn’t progress much; she was a solid middleweight in the elite of women’s tennis. In 2017, she outplayed Natalia Vikhlyantseva in the final and took the top trophy at the tournament in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. It remains her only WTA title so far.
In 2018 the athlete had a good performance in Wuhan, where she reached the finals but lost to Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka. At Grand Slam tournaments the same year, her best result was the 4th round of Roland Garros, where the Estonian lost to Sloane Stephens in two sets.
The following year, the athlete also performed at her level. She performed best at the WTA Tournament in Stuttgart, where only Petra Kvitova was able to stop Kontaveit in the final match.
