The Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas started the season well, beating Nadal in the quarterfinals at the Australian Open and reaching the semifinals of the Rotterdam competition, but it’s clear he wants to win his first title of the season as soon as possible. That’s why Tsitsipas is now taking part in the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco.

Tsitsipas is already in the second round of the competition beating Paire Benoit 6-3,6-1. In a post-match interview with the ATP press service, Tsitsipas talked about his win.
I didn’t know what to expect from him. Playing at tournaments, where you’re coming for the first time, can add up completely unpredictably.
I felt responsible and wanted to stay true to my style of play and ability to fight. The spectators cheered me on throughout the whole match, which gave me strength. That makes a huge difference when you go somewhere for the first time. It felt great.

In the next round, Tsitsipas will play American tennis player John Isner, against whom he won his last two meetings in New York and Beijing.
