Who’s Nikoloz Basilashvili’s Former Coach
Jan De Witt
His only career coach has been German trainer Jan de Witt. We worked with him from 2015 to 2021. During that time, Basilashvili reached his first ATP final. WIth him, Nikoloz also won three titles. His best ranking with Jan de Witt was 16.
Why did they split? “I had an extremely good tennis coach in Jan de Witt, who basically changed my entire tennis career – from being a rookie to being a professional. I stopped working with Jan de Witt because we felt I wasn’t in the best shape to need Jan’s help”. Nevertheless, he might work together again in the future. “I trained for three years in Germany, in Halle, currently I’m mostly at home in Georgia or at tournaments. We’ll see what the future brings”.
De Witt has coached Andy Murray, Gilles Simon, Gael Monfils, Tatsuma Ito, Aslán karátsev and Viktor Troicki.
Not a coach’s fan
Before de Witt, Nikoloz Basilashvili didn’t have any coach. ¿The reason? “A coach can destroy everything with just one sentence”, he once said. When he was 22, the Georgian was a “savage player”, as he defined himself. The Georgian also said about himself that, at that time, he didn’t act as a professional player.
