Simona Halep was born September 27, 1991 in Constanta, where she currently resides. Her father, former professional soccer player Stere Halep, is the director of a dairy factory in Romania and her mother’s name is Tania.
Halep began her professional career in 2006 playing in an ITF tournament in Romania and the following season she won two singles and doubles titles. The Romanian played her first WTA qualifier in 2009 and won her first WTA Tour event that same season.
The tennis player calls Roger Federer and Justine Henin her childhood idols. In her free time Halep likes to watch movies and listen to music, and is also fond of handball.
