Serena Williams was born on September 26, 1981 in Saginaw, USA, and now resides in Palm Beach County, Florida, USA. Serena began playing tennis at the age of five under the guidance of her father Richard and mother Orasen. Serena has an older sister, Vinus, who has also excelled in tennis.
Serena played her first official match in 1995 in qualifying for a tournament in Quebec. Two years later the American made her WTA Top 100 debut, playing twice in the main draw, and in the 1998 season she was able to climb into the Top 20 world rankings.
