Bianca Andreescu was born June 16, 2000 in Mississauga, Ontario, in a family of Romanian immigrants. She began playing tennis at the age of seven. As a child, Bianca’s idols were Roger Federer and Simona Halep.
At the end of 2014 Andreescu became champion at the Orange Bowl junior tournament in the United States in the under-16 category, and another year later she won it in the under-18 category as well, not even having reached the age of sixteen. In 2016 Bianca won her first ITF singles and doubles titles, and a year later she made her Grand Slam main event debut at Wimbledon.
Andreescu is the 2019 US Open champion and the first Canadian Slam winner in Open-era history. She beat Serena Williams in the final. It was Bianchi’s debut in the US Open main draw. Andreescu is the first tennis player to take the title, having never played in a New York main event before. It was the fourth appearance at the “major” in the career of the Canadian – no one took the first Slam title faster than her.
