After the Australian Open, ATP Tour representatives will be able to participate in the European series of tournaments in 2022. The first championship of this segment will be the ATP Montpellier. The world’s top players have been coming here since the 2010 season. The next event will be held from January 31 to February 6 and will be ATP 250. Traditionally, the tennis players will meet on a hard surfaces in the hall, which allows a better feeling to well-served players.

ATP Montpellier: History of the competition
Under the brand name Open Sud de France, competitions in France have been held for more than 30 years. From 1987 to 2009 tennis masters came to Lyon. Pete Sampras was the most frequent tennis player to win in Lyon until 2009 – three times.
In modern history, the tournament was held in two arenas in Montpellier. In 2010 it was held at the Park & Suites Arena. The following season it was not held at all due to changes in the calendar, and in 2012 it moved to the Sud de France arena where it is still based today.
Three times at ATP Montpellier the Frenchman Richard Gasquet and Gael Monfils won. Gasquet was the best in 2013, 2015 and 2016. Before that, Richard also managed to take the trophy in Lyon in 2006.
ATP Montpellier Ranking Points
The ATP Montpellier tennis tournament belongs to the ATP 250 category. In the main draw, 28 competitors start and four more are selected through qualification. Ranking points are distributed in the following order:
Winner – 250 points;
The finalist – 150 points;
Semifinalist – 90 points;
Quarterfinalist – 45 points;
Round of 16 – 20 points;
First round – 0 points.
In last year’s draw, the Belgian David Goffin won. In the decisive match, David beat Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut in three sets.
